I am the proud mother of two gorgeous sons. They are completely different and that is what makes them both so unique. We were not blessed with a daughter but to be honest (and I know this sounds horrible) I am happy with that. I would not have loved a daughter any differently but I am happy with my boys. Over the years I have thought about what it would have been like to have a girl but (and I am being honest again) I don’t think I would have handled her very well. My rationalisation for this is:
- I am not a Girly Girl at all.
- I would have difficulty in coordinating a dress with shoes and hair and jewellery.
- Possibly having to become a “Dance Mum”
- I can not straighten, curl, braid or do anything amazing with hair.
- I have trouble with my own makeup let alone trying to help others – poor thing would probably end up looking like Tammy Fay Baker – who I know has now passed away so sorry Tammy Fay but the reference still stands.
- I know I would have trouble handing the delicate issues which arise along with a ladies …….. what shall we call it ……. Monthly Bill,Girl Flu, Red Dot Special, Visit from Aunt Fanny or as my Step Mum used to say “I’m getting the painters in tomorrow” which as a child always confused me as I would get home from school and the house would look the same…………….. You all know what I mean, yes your period (pause for disgusted looks from the boys and looks of knowing anguish from the girls) and by “delicate issues” I mean the way your beautiful, sensitive, kind, loving daughter suddenly becomes a two headed, screaming, raging psychopath once a month. No just couldn’t handle that.
And last but not least would be dealing with their relationships with other girls – who we all know can be little b*&^hes. From a far more younger age than back in my day, these girls travel in packs hunting our their pray and laying in wait to strike – not with a crudely made shank of a toothbrush and razorblades bound with bandaids (I think I may have been watching too much “Orange is the New Black.”) but with the most evil device ever invented for the use of the cyber bully – the iPhone.
Just thought of one more point: movies. I love a good movie and we enjoy seeing them as a family. I have never sat through “Frozen” not even once, or any Barbie Movie, My Little Pony or any of the Tinkerbell sagas. I have however sat through all of the Batman, Iron Man, Wolverine and Avengers movies which I may say are made alot easier when there is Robert Downey Jnr, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Hugh Jackman to admire -for their outstanding acting prowess of course 🙂
